Onychomycosis or nail fungus is a mycotic infection that occurs when the fungus invades the nails and the skin under the nail. Besides the aesthetic discomfort, the infection also affects the nail structure. Statistical data shows that about 30% of the world’s population had a nail fungus form at least once in a lifetime, and men are more prone to onychomycosis than women.
Nail fungus can be transmitted through direct contact with the source of the infection. It can also be transmitted through the skin particles on towels and shoes or at the pool.
Toenail fungus is a long-lasting infection, it sometimes last up to two months.
The person in question will receive antifungals that will remove the fungus. Also, the person should pay attention to hygiene. Thus, it is recommended to use cotton socks and to change them daily.
Feet should be always clean and especially dry. The towel used for feet should not be shared with others.
Also, the person should follow a proper diet that will stop fungus growth. Thus, it is recommended to remove sugar and grain because they feed the fungus and bad bacteria.
